<body><a href="../index.html">HOME</a><br><table summary="299"><tr><td class="etesti">299</td><td class="edate">From mid to the end of August, 1945.</td><td class="eage">Babies were carried to the incineration spot alive.</td></tr><tr><td class="ei_midasi" colspan=3>40 years old at that time</td></tr></table><div class="large"><p>I stayed there for forty days.  The forty days that I spent in the emergency aid station was awful.  Hundreds died one after another.  There was nobody who came to stay by, hence maggots, which were this big, crawled at he patients' burns.  You can hardly see them at that size.</p></p><p>Maggots showed up endlessly.  We tried to sweep them off by a broom.  And the patients were groaning with pain.  From here and there, maggots ran off from their bodies.  Seriously!</p><br><p>Collected with a broom and a dustpan, maggots were carried out to the school field and burned.  With little time to breathe, soon the new ones crawled out in the evening.</p><br><p>And a few had a baby.  I was surprised to see a baby delivered in 6 months.  This small, I couldn't believe it.  Someone said, "Leave the baby, since s/he is still alive".  But against those words, the baby was taken to the incineration spot.  Obviously the baby died, but it was so painful.  Honestly!</p></div></body>
