On the 19th of August, I had a terrible fever. My throat felt sore and I could not even take water. My fever went over 40 degrees C.
When I went to hospital, the doctor asked me. "Where were you when the atomic bomb was dropped?" "I was in Zenza-machi." "Were you exposed to the light?" "I felt it at the front door." "Ones who were exposed to that light are likely to die."
The doctor pulled my hair with a strange look and said, "It's strange, you know. You are supposed to die if you were in Zenza-machi and have a bad fever like this."
A doctor saying, "you are supposed to die" to a patient? I could not believe my ears.
He went on, "We will find out in a few days. You might die in those few days, though."
