We were mobilized to run the land rearrangement of the epicenter. When we arrived there, the situation was beyond our control. The houses had collapsed and some parts of them were burning. A person who was under the rubble by the roadside shouted, "Help! Help!"
We had worn light blue overalls, and had put on our gaiters and field caps, so they thought we looked like soldiers. All of them said, "Soldier! Water! Water!" We gave some water to them. They took a gulp and died. I knew the "Water to moisten a dying person's lips", and then I saw what it meant for the first time through my own eyes. They were so weak that they couldn't even drink water properly. So, instantly they had choked to death. What we call euthanasia. How many people did I send to heaven?
When I found people who were in fairly good health, I tried to hold their hands to pull them out from under the rubble. However their hands were coming off. At first I thought their hands were coming off, but their skin was coming off. The sight was so awful that I had to avert my eyes. I didn't know what to do.
There was nothing to do except fetch some water, give it to them and send them to heaven. We excavated them from under the rubble and speak openly that we had to put them to death. I hope you can understand what I mean.
We went there for the purpose of operating the land rearrangement of the epicenter.
