I hurried toward the epicenter. After I passed through Ibinokuchi (district), there were burnt people here and there. A streetcar was overturned, a cart horse was killed and human bodies were everywhere. In the overturned streetcar, people were burnt black to death.
In the Urakami river there were many people. What I pitied most was the figure of a burnt body that stretched his both arms toward the street after crawling out from a collapsed house. Its neck was heavily burnt. In such shape! I pitied indeed.
In the river, people cried for help. I needed to hurry to my house so that I could not help them. My house laid flat and half burned. All neighbours were the same so that I could not do anything.
