I was at the large field above Zenza-machi (district) International Cemetery1. Many injured people came to evacuate and huddled together.
I had served in the army for 9 years in China and had seen scores of dead bodies. During the military service, I was never surprised with those corpses. However at this time seeing them, I was in such a state of mind as if even my soul were blown off.
In most cases, original faces could not be identified due to burns. There was a baby dying, but its mother was cuddling and trying to feed breast milk to her. She was desperate. Another baby on its mother's back was crying hard for milk, while mother was dying. There was an old person who suffered from heavy wound and unable to speak. Two boys, probably they were brothers, were madly running nearby the old person. They kept on calling their mother and father.
