When I came to a street out from the factory, people, that looked as though they were a herd of sheep, were evacuating in rows. I mingled with the crowd. I think now that the crowd however was not heading to the safe direction, which was to Nagasaki Station, but to the unsafe direction, to Urakami (district). People just kept on following the line.
I too was escaping with them and saw a stark naked woman sitting and crying on the road. All of surrounding houses were collapsed. Her beasts were torn off. I was frightened to see her for a moment, but unable to do anything. I continued to advance with the crowd. Like a herd of cows driven by cattleman, hundreds or thousands of survivors went on side by side.
I heard a cry, "Help!"
The voice came from crushed house on the roadside. It was a woman who was shouting for sure. Nobody stopped and tried to help her. Neither did I. I too had no room in my mind to help her. All I could do was to evacuate. Everybody escaped and I did too.
