I entered the shelter and looked for my brother. He wasn't there, and I went out. Then my friend, Kyoko-chan, called me,
"Mi-chan, Mi-chan."
I asked her, "Who are you?"
She answered,
"It's me, Kyoko!"
She came closer to me and said,
"Mi-chan, water, water, please."
At that time I wasn't in a condition to give her any water. I looked at her. Her body was burnt all black! She' had no hair! Only a piece of rubber-string of her panty was left on her body.
All her skins were burnt black! I don't mean she had blisters or all her skins got peeled off, but merely she blackened all over. I think she got badly burned. Even now her voice is ringing in my ears,
"Water, water!"
Later on I planted cherry trees at my backyard. They grew very tall. In summer times, cicadas flew over and cried at the trees. Their chirrs sounded to me like,
"Water, water, water," "Water, water, give me water, please!"
Cicadas' chirrs sounded like her painful groans of that time. Cicadas were shrieking.
I asked somebody to cut down all the cherry trees.
