I was a soldier of the anti-aircraft unit posted at the back of Nagasaki station. I thought that the sun fell down when it happened. The strength of the light of the heat flash, the huge sound of the explosion!! people later on called it "Pika-Don"1 (the bomb flashed, and then exploded). But, maybe because I was already gazing into the sky on my duty, I felt the flash and sound at the same time.
Everything looked yellowish and the smoke was moving. It was like the air was moving.
"I was hit, help me,"
I heard that voice and looked at the direction. The naked soldier was roaming around there. He was shouting like crazy.
The burns on my skins started to pain badly. I was standing but crouched down on the ground again. And I realized that my shoes and shirt burned and were smoldering. Instinctively I extinguished the smoke.
1) Pika-Don:
Pika=the sound of the flash light.
Don=the sound of the big fall. "Thud" may sound close in English.
