It was time to leave the office for the day. Mr.Nishioka who was the Representative in Nagasaki city rushed into my office. I had only just read about the new bomb dropped on Hiroshima in the newspaper, and didn't know much about it.
He said to me,
"Governor, the new bomb of Hiroshima, that is awful. I went on my foot through downtown Hiroshima, because the train was suspended on my way back to Nagasaki from Tokyo, and we had to get off at Kaitaichi station in Hiroshima. I have just arrived in Nagasaki. Many trees that you need to hold with your both arms around have been knocked down In Hiroshima. All the concrete buildings have been smashed. On that day of bombing the whole city of Hiroshima was sea of flames. There were people everywhere, whose skins were burnt melting from their faces or chests. They were roaming here and there."
I asked him,
"Did you see what you're telling me with your own eyes, or has somebody else told you the part of the story?"
He replied, "I have seen them all with my own eyes."
