I squeezed every person's hands on partings. They said,
"Japan will fight this war until there will be no soldier left. Won't they? You will fight until the very last, won't you?" Their dying wish was that Japan keep up until they win the war. I am sure about it.
And then, I remember that children died singing a war song. This made tears fall down on my face, and I squeezed their hands. The children were very pitiful. Some of them said at their end, "Mom." They still died for the win. It is really intolerable for me when I now recall.
They were only in the 9th grades at junior high school. They died singing a war song or school song. I heard that the case would be the same as to the children dying at the roadside.
Children really died in a pitiful way.
