I made my rounds as a soldier in the ruins of Hiroshima city. People were lying down there and cried to us all at once,
"Soldier, please give me water... It's so hot... water, please..."
Whenever they heard our footsteps, they started crying in great pain,"Water...! Water...! We wanted to give them water, but we told them instead,
"If you drink water, you'll die. We absolutely cannot give you water."
People burned raw looked unbearably thirsty. They died off, murmuring, "Water... water..."
Now I really regret not having given them any water. I should have let them drink as much as they liked.
