What we were surprised first, in the ruins in Hiroshima city, was the horrible sight. I thought it was like a hell.
People, whose faces, hands and feet were burned raw, were laid down in rows across the streets. Their skins peeled and bled, and the red flesh was exposed. Underneath those people, there were others who couldn't move at all, and were covered with blood and cried, "Give me some water... Give me some water..."
As soon as you step in Hiroshima city, you smell awful stench hanging over the city. It was like something was rotting. I felt as if I were breathing poison gas. People were burning dead bodies everywhere.
I thought, "I experienced the bombing in our city Kure, and saw miserable things. But the damage to our city was not as bad as the one to Hiroshima. I was lucky not to have such a terrible bombing."
Words cannot express exactly what I saw in Hiroshima. No one can understand how terrible the scene was without really seeing it.
