Holding an open umbrella to shield sunshine, I stayed beside my sister who had got heavily burnt and was lying on the street. Noticing her abnormal conditions, I said to Mr.Nishida, "Mr.Nishida, my sister might be dead." He asked me, " Do you have a hand mirror?" I said, "Yes, I do." I took my mirror out of my emergency tool bag. He put it in front of my sister's nose, and said, "The mirror does not steam up. Her breath is quite shallow. She is in danger. Beat her to wake her up!"
I beat my sister on her cheek.
"Sister, sister, sister," my sister said only three words and died. It was about quarter past ten in the morning.
Mr.Nishida said to me, "You should reconcile yourself to her death. You had well looked after your sister and on top of that you were beside her when she died. There are many people who died without meeting their families after being A-bombed. Cheer up, please."
