People injured in my neighborhood ran to my clinic. People with broken legs ran in, too. Many of them also had broken shoulders or arms. When put on edge, men can run even in such terrible condition, can't they? As soon as I diagnosed their fractures, however, they became immobilized.
Another one came running with a broken piece of shoji (paper sliding door) frame stuck into his eye. It didn't occur to him to remove the piece himself on the way, I guess.
There were many such serious and pitiful patients among those who came to me.
When I was treating a patient in my office, someone came to me saying, "Doc, go over there, please. The waiting room is full." As I was out there, people began to compete with each other to be seen first. "Me first!" "I'm more seriously injured. Treat me first, please!" I had to sort them out and put them in order before doing anything.
