After reconnaissance in Hiroshima, I returned to Kure and reported to the chief of the Naval Base the situations in Hiroshima and requests from the Army. Kure Navy Base immediately gathered unit commanders for a meeting and decided the followings:
- Kure Naval Brigade Chief of Command organizes a 1,500-personnel task force.
- Kure Naval Hospital Director organizes 10 medical corps.
- Kure Military Procurement Chief procures food for 20,000 people.
- All the above are to be completed by around 15:00.
By order, I left Kure by car before the troops did and headed to Hiroshima again. When I arrived, the city had become completely different from what I saw in the morning. The whole city was burning fiercely. The injured were running to escape. The flaring fire was beyond description.
