There were people who were hideously disfigured with blisters caused by burns. There were dead men whose balls were like balloons blown up to burst. I vividly remember wondering why and how they grew that big.
My students came back to school one after another. They all had severe injuries. Each student addressed me with "Hello, Miss." I asked, "Who are you?" I was unable to tell who they were because they looked completely different.
They were mobilized to work outdoors, so they were exposed to the heat rays directly. They were covered with grey blisters and looked like bloated pigs.
Every student said, "I'm cold," though it was high summer. They said, "I'm so cold. Give me something to wear" and then "Give me water."
Most of my students died in such great agony.
