<body><a href="../index.html">HOME</a><br><table summary="020"><tr><td class="etesti">020</td><td class="edate">About 15 minutes after the burst on August 6<sup>th</sup>, 1945</td><td class="eage">31 years old at that time</td></tr><tr><td class="ei_midasi" colspan=3>It was a ghost town.</td></tr></table><div class="largep"><p>I went up the watchtower next to the barracks and was shocked to see the devastation of Hiroshima.  Amazingly, I could see Koi Station (present Nishi-Hiroshima Station) and even the hill at the back of the station close-up, without any obstructions.  They could never be seen from our watchtower before.  Turning to the east, I found the Hiroshima Castle was in ruins.  It had been standing there so majestically until the day before.  Looking down, I saw some trains on their side, some upside down, and some derailed and facing sideways.  The town looked empty.  I didn't hear any sound.  Not a single person was passing by.  It seemed to be a quiet ghost town.</p></div></body>
