There was a flash, a bluish white flash. It lit up the inside of temple hall (where I was), too. But no sound followed immediately. Wondering if there was an explosion somewhere very far away, I counted the seconds until I finally heard the bang. As several seconds had passed, I figured it must have happened somewhere in the distance, like from here to Hiroshima. Oh, yes, I thought, maybe there had been an explosion at the munitions depot in Hiroshima.
Soon I saw an enormous cloud of smoke rise in the sky. It was multicolored, white, black and pink. It continued to grow laterally to produce a mushroom shape. In fact, they called it a mushroom cloud later.
